Concerns about oil discovery in Ghana: Another Nigeria?

As the president of the Western House of Chiefs for the last 8 years and the Vice-President of the National House of Chiefs for 6 years Awulae Attibrukasa (48) spoke about his concerns about the recent oil discovery and building of the first platforms offshore. The oil found of the summer of 2007 for the Ghanaian coast contains about three billion barrels. The oilfield is situated offshore around Cape Three point and in December 2009 the exploration and building of the first oil platforms started. Many concerns about the possible negative effects of the oil found where given by Awulae Attibrukasa. He criticised on the government in earlier meetings and publications.

Der Papayakönig von Ghana

„Klar, kommt vorbei“, sagt Helmut Lutz sofort auf die Frage, ob es möglich sei, seine Papayafarm zu besuchen, „wir treffen uns um 9 auf dem Parkplatz der Accra Mall, von da sind es 3 Stunden bis zu meiner Plantage in der Voltaregion.“ Der 50-jährige ist Ghanas größter Papayaexporteur. Jede Woche schickt er 20-30 Tonnen per Luftfracht nach Deutschland, wo die Früchte in den verschiedenen Supermärkten landen. Im Jahr sind es 500 Tonnen, das ist die Haelfte des gesamten Papayaexports Ghanas.

Ghanas Hühnerfarmer lassen Federn

Heute ist Ihr letzter Tag. Die 40jährige Rachel Osabutey packt die letzten verbleibenden Hühner zusammen, und fängt mit ihren Mitarbeitern an, den kleinen Behelfsstall abzubauen, der 2 Wochen lang mitten auf der Straße in Accra stand. 2 Wochen lang, von 18. Dezember bis jetzt, den 1. Januar hat sie versucht, die letzten Hühner ihrer Geflügelfarm zu verkaufen, jetzt macht sie dicht.
